Western France is located at the heart of the richest Europe at a central position for Atlantic and North West Europe with an immediate proximity to Paris and London. It covers the region of Pays de la Loire and the region of Poitou-Charentes in the western part of France.
Western France combines the two coastal regions (with Nantes and Poitiers as capital cities) and covers an area of about 22,350 sq. miles (comparable to Ireland, or twice the size of Belgium, half the size of the state of Ohio (USA)).
It hosts about 5.25 million residents (equivalent to the American State of Minnesota or to the French region of Provence Alpes-Côte d'Azur, half the population of Belgium or Portugal).
Widely known for their touristic attractiveness, the two regions of Western France show also considerable economic growth within the country: with 141 billion Euros in 2008 (7% of French wealth), Western France’s GDP is comparable to Portugal or to the American states of South Carolina or Louisiana. It is half the GDP of Austria, and half the GDP of Norway.
"Western France" is the name chosen by these two regions to be jointly recognized worldwide.
